Monday Mission: Micro-Tasking & Focus!

Staying focused can be one of the hardest things to do when you work online. You know what you need to do, you have tons of ideas to work with, or several projects in the works, but there's a constant stream of distractions and endless ways to procrastinate... enticing you to jump from one thing to another all day, until you reach the end of the day with NOTHING on your priority task list actually DONE.

* Those things on your "priority task list" should all be business-building actions, or "money tasks" as I like to call them. 😉

Monday Mission:
Micro-Tasking (Single Task Focus!)

1. Know your objective and your priorities

When you know exactly what you want to accomplish, you can easily create a list of tasks to achieve that goal.

2. Choose one project to work on, and COMPLETE it.

You'll have multiple products, projects and ideas for your business at any given time. There are always a lot of moving parts and pieces to running an online business. Not sure where to start with it all? Pick ONE thing and knock it out! Then move on to the next.

3. Create an "Action Steps" list to complete that project or product.

TIP: break that list down into micro-tasks, in the order they need to be done, then start at the top and do ONE simple task at a time. Every single thing you mark off the list, even the smallest thing, will give you a sense of accomplishment and create momentum to help you power through the project!

4. TUNE OUT & TURN OFF

Turn off all distractions, silence notifications, close browsers or programs you're not using for the task at hand, and FOCUS ON ONE THING all the way through to completion!

5. Work in Time Blocks

I find it helps most to create a schedule or routine of working in Time Blocks. This is especially useful if you're working on multiple projects, or juggling a variety of things in your growing business.

Set aside uninterrupted "focus time" for content creation, product creation, social media marketing, list building, learning, outreach/connecting/recruiting, etc.

6. Be your own BOSS

Are you doing a lot of personal stuff while you're on the clock? Are you making the company money, or costing the company time & money?

If YOU were your own boss (oh wait! you are!)... would you fire you, or promote you - and give you a big fat raise for being such an amazing asset to the business?

Do you make lists, use a digital planner, mindmaps, a whiteboard, spreadsheets, are you a doodler or do you GEEK OUT over planners & journals and have a creative flair for planning - or do you WISH you did?

What's your goal planning style?!

MY goal planning strategy hasn't been working for me...

So it's time for a change!

I've had a successful, profitable business for over 23 years, so obviously what I'm doing IS working - to an extent, at least. 😉

What I'm finding though, is no matter how productive or how profitable my day is, I'm not getting to the BIG goals. Or I haven't been making room in my schedule or routine for the things I really want to accomplish in my life & business.

Do you get caught up in the "dailies" just checking off tasks?

More often than not, that's me.

I've been using Evernote for quite a few years now, mainly because it syncs EVERYTHING (all my projects, my grocery list, you name it) across ALL my mobile devices & laptop computers.

It has a lot of great features including checklists, goal templates and nested notebooks to keep all of your projects neatly organized and easily accessible.

But lately I've been craving a more hands-on goal setting and goal planning experience, with more visual inspiration.

I'm keeping Evernote (because it works!) but I'm adding in hands-on paper journals & goal planners with lots of color & creativity. ‍ - which is proving to bring back the FUN to goal setting & project planning!

Here's what is currently spread out across my planning desk:

My challenge to you for the week: Do each of these 6 easy content ideas to improve your traffic & social media engagement!

Alice Seba posed a question this week on Facebook in one of her groups about free vs paid content, or access to you. My answer to that was 1- it depends on your niche and business model (of course). And 2- The more content I create and the more accessible I am to my audience... the more money I make. 😉

If you want exposure, traffic & sales - creating content is the answer. Even if it's just on social media (quick & easy!) and even if you don't yet have anything to offer or sell (use affiliate links!).

It's just TOO EASY to be making sales online right now for you to NOT be doing it.

Maybe you don't believe ^ that, or you're not really sure YOU can easily make sales (or even make a living!) online. But maybe THAT alone is what keeps you from doing the things that will prove that you can.

6 Types of Content to Boost Your Social Media Engagement

Create visual content: a quote graphic, tip graphic, infographic, photo illustrating your topic, etc. * Canva is a great free resource with tons of free templates.

Create a video. It could be a short video demonstrating a how-to, a tip video, something inspirational or motivational. Itt could be an "over the shoulder" look at your hands doing something or a product and how to use it. It could be an educational video made in Powerpoint or Keynote (slides) exported to video format. Lots of EASY ideas!

Host a contest or giveaway

Respond to DM's (Direct Messages) or follow up with someone that messaged you recently - check in to see how it worked out, or if that worked for them, etc.

Create a Top Tips or How-To post on something very specific. Make it "actionable content" for your readers to experience a sense of achievement.

Ask your audience questions! It encourages responses and interaction. Then respond to those questions and keep the discussion going. (Higher engagement = more social media reach on any platform!)

* Tip: Repurpose that Q&A into blog posts, a short report, a Facebook Live series - or all of the above. 😉

Start an Idea Journal for content ideas as they come to you. If you already have one, revisit it this week: does it need to be organized or updated? Or pick an idea from your list and run with it!

There are a variety of ways you can use it...

As an affiliate marketer I love the idea of using the CPA model to deliver targeted ads for high conversions. CPA simply means Cost Per Action, or pay-per-lead affiliate programs, which tend to convert extremely well in front of targeted audiences.

You can also use it to deliver special offers, promotions, news & content, sales & discounts - and even upload files such as ebooks, checklists & templates they can download.

Most interesting is that you can do geo-targeting which is especially beneficial to local businesses looking to reach people in a specific area with a targeted promotion.

Push-notifications are short-form notifications delivered on the desktop or mobile device, based on you're targeting specifications, where you pay per click.

The key is to create very compelling images & copy, and put those ads in front of highly targeted users in the network.

I was most curious how people sign up or opt-in to get these push notifications on their mobile device or desktop, so that was the first question I asked.

They are permission-based, and it's done using a special code on partern's websites where people give their permission to receive relevant notifications.

They offer:

More than 12 million clicks per day
CPC model (cost-per-click)
The minimum price is 0.001 $ per click
Full tracker included (no need to use third-party trackers)

You can use push notifications to remind existing customers about your product or services, or send them updates or special offers & sales.

It's also a great way to do pay-per-lead (CPA-based) affiliate marketing with things like free games, dating sites, lotteries, etc. There are many affiliate networks full of CPA offers you can choose from, and you can usually sort them by performance and conversion to choose which ones to test.

The Megapu.sh ad platform gives you the option to send notifications to both desktop and mobile devices, or choose one or the other.

From what I read, desktop based push notifications convert higher.

You can also target your ads based on operating system, browser, location, date & time, IP address/ranges, etc.

The minimum deposit is $100 and you can't withdraw funds, so that's the initial investment for your test run on the Megapu.sh platform.

Looking at screenshots of the process it looks incredibly easy to use, and boasts "from registration to running the first campaign will take only 10 minutes."

Product or List – Which Comes First?

There are so many creative niche products you can use to build an email list and to create great money-making funnels.

The big question is:

Should you have a product first - or an audience & list first?

It's a trick question actually with no correct answer.

Just like the chicken & egg debate.

In my Brainstorming Hour session last night we discussed a variety of creative niche product ideas you can use to build your list and make money online, including: interactive products and physical products, product funnel ideas, and super easy list builders. Almost any product can be repurposed in a variety of ways, turned into both marketing content and higher end products, as just two examples.

You can turn an ebook into a workshop. You could turn a free report into a webinar or slideshow presentation, or even a video. Most software programs you use to create a digital product have a variety of export options!

Alice Seba shares 7 Product Creation Points on this page, and we discussed most of those same points (and more) during Brainstorming Hour.

Alice used one of her own Private Label Rights packages as a live example for those points, which is really helpful.

Tip: Forget the HOW and just focus on the WHAT.

One of the biggest problems people have with creating a great (or even a simple) info product is getting all wrapped up in how/where to upload it, how to deliver it, how to set up a funnel, which platform or affiliate program or delivery system to use, yada yada yada.

NONE OF THAT MATTERS.

It doesn't matter until you actually have a product to sell or give away, that is.

Unfortunately most people get so sidetracked and overwhelmed with all of that... that they never even get the product created - or completed!

So first: focus on creating your product.

Even if it's a simple checklist, worksheet or report - just get it done!

If you're not sure what topic to choose, or you're hung up on what to create a product ABOUT, one of my favorite resources is Answer The Public. Just plug in the main word for your niche and see what questions people are asking! You could create endless checklists, worksheets or short reports with that resource alone.

If you don't yet have a niche or a business, you can use a product to CREATE one.

Creating a product is one of the fastest, easiest ways to build your list and get yourself established in any niche.

You could use PLR, which is content and products already created for you, and just pick one that's is a topic & market you'd like to talk about and work in. Alice has a list of several PLR Products at the top of this page you can grab and run with - today!

Maybe you already know what topic/niche you would choose, but you're stuck on having no website and no list and no one to sell it to...

That's an easy fix!

You simply go to the people that DO have a website, already have an audience, and DO have a list (and people to sell things to) and you pay them commission to recommend your product. Bingo!

It's called leverage.

Or in the IM world: Affiliate Marketing.

So if you're starting with NO list, and you do that, you're building a list of BUYERS - which is a great list to have.

That's actually one of the TOP reasons you should create and sell a product: to build a list of buyers!

Even if it's just a low cost product, what really matters is that your subscribers are a list of people that have a paypal account or credit card... and don't mind to use it. Meaning: they'll willingly pay for information on that topic.

From there you can offer more products, or recommend products as an affiliate, and you'll see higher conversions than other types of email lists.

This whole topic, and all the ideas we brainstormed, came up in my session last night because we were discussing the Point Click Workbook Templates.

I really want to encourage you to stop spinning your wheels, and start creating niche products.

It's the best way to easily increase your online income, or to START making money online!

If you already have a list or an audience, you definitely need to put a product in front of them. Or put MORE products in front of them.

If you don't yet have a list or an audience, this is the easiest way to kick-start that process.

Here are just a few product ideas to consider creating:

checklist
worksheet
short report
ebook
online workshop, course or class
offline workshop
workbook
spiral bound workbook
physical course in a 3-ring binder
membership site

Like I said, all of those can easily be combined, repurposed into different formats, expanded on, condensed, etc so that ONE main product becomes ALL of those product types!

My advice: start with something simple. You can grow it from there.
